Olamic Cutlery

Olamic Cutlery is a decade-old family-operated cutlery manufacturing organization in California that began with fixed blades and entered the folders market in 2013. The firm is led by ABS MasterSmith Michael Vagnino and is headquartered in Visalia, California.

Olamic Cutlery thrives on the goal of mixing hard work and contemporary manual techniques to make folders. The Wayfarer Classic is followed by Wayfarer Compact, Gambit, and Rainmaker folders. The handmade models don't incorporate CNC usage, and Olamic Cutlery maintains "never the same" mantra for making knives.

Until now, Olamic Cutlery has manufactured more than ten million unique custom knives for the international market. The fixed blades were created in Russia and continue to do so. The California facility also completes the final polishing of the Russian forged blanks.

The manufacturer forges Damascus steel from proprietary alloy mixtures designed as High Carbon Vanadium Damascus or HCVD. The Wayfarer 247 is one of the robust EDC knives developed in 2016 and became the reason for incorporating machines for some parts.

Presently, the machines help in maintaining knife precisions, functionality, reliability, and long-lasting effects. However, handwork is visible in creating manual variants or finishes, unimaginable with devices. The manufacturer makes hand-carved series, Halloween editions, folding knives, and fixed blades.

It offers to upgrade an existing knife and use the online build assistant besides offering half-baked and Inlay builds. In 2018, the Pocket Axe (Broad) won the Best Non-Knife EDC award at the Blade Show West.

The company also has dealers in the US, Russia, Finland, Hong Kong, Australia, and Thailand. The USA dealers are situated in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

All You Need to Know About Olamic Cutlery Products

Olamic Cutlery hand-carved knife series is designed by Andrey Kolesnikov, a radio engineer by trade with professional carving experience since 1991. He created the sub-categories, including Dragons, Heroes & Villain, Jazzy Buskers, Ancient Civilization, Gilded Creatures, Art Homage, War Helmets, and many more.

Olamic Tactical knives are handcrafted in collaboration with Michael Vagnino in their Visalia, California business (ABS). The majority of items are one-of-a-kind and incorporate a variety of handcrafted components. They employ a range of quality natural and synthetic materials, as well as premium steel, and its flipping motion is unmatched.

The folding knives include Wayfarer 247, Busker, Whippersnapper, Rainmaker, Swish, Soloist, Wayfarer Classic, Rainmaker Classic, and Gambit. The company uses Damascus steel to manufacture blades, and forging the knives requires skilled artisans.

The company's artists forge and shape Damascus steel in-house using a mix of four O1 and 52100 steel. The blades come with 57-58 HRC of Rockwell hardness with 300-400 layers. Artisans are divided based on experience in different stages: blade forging and shaping, heat-treatment and acid etching, final assembly, and handle-work.

Damascus knives have a mottled blade pattern and often showcase a wavy characteristic. The flexibility, hardness, and sharp edge maintenance of the Damascus steel are highly valued. Weapons made of Damascus steel are highly superior to iron forged. Besides this, the metal is aesthetic, dark, and beautiful.

On average, the cost of Damascus steel tools ranges from $50 to $200, depending on the total number of folds. Buyers should be aware that many manufacturers, unlike Olamic Cutlery, make fake Damascus steel blades by laser or acid etching to stainless or carbon steel blades. The objective of such knives is to offer pattern resemblance to the real one at lower prices.

Damascus steel may not come from the city it was named after; however, it is forged and sculped used a 2000-year-old technique. Therefore, a chef's knife made from Damascus steel will exhibit sharpness, durability, and distinctive layer patterns. Unfortunately, these blades often rust easily without care, even though they have high carbon steel and alloy with small chromium amounts.

The American Bladesmith suggests that Damascus steel blades should have 300 to 500 layers for offering optimum aesthetics, and Olamic Cutlery meets the desired industry standards. In addition, the labor-intensive process involved in manufacturing such blades makes it comparatively expensive than others.

The company even introduced the Halloween Edition in October 2020. Presently, it offers twenty-one varieties under the series. The half-baked build consists of five sub-categories: Inlays, Sculpted, Acid Rain, Hole Patterns, and Faux Bolster. Furthermore, the Inlay builds consist of Dot, Pivot Collars, and Order Process categories.

The Order Process requires filling a form to make a custom knife and get a quote. On the other hand, the Build Assistant offers a choice of Blade & Handle Finish, Handle Sculpting & Inlays, Weight Reduction, Pocket Clips, and Black bars or Filework. So, you check out different options before making an order.

Lastly, you can upgrade an existing knife with different finishes, features, styles, or options. The company provides a Trade-In Program through which you can exchange a knife's base version for another. You can even visit the Parts Shop of the manufacturer to find methods of customization. Alternatively, reach out to the company by filling an online form to know about the program or customization methods.
